Our client, a leading international distributor of energy products and services, undertook a digital transformation initiative to strengthen its market position and deliver greater value to its B2B customers across the land, and aviation sectors. Their vision: an integrated, data-driven platform for global fuel and energy management.Plexteq was selected as the technology partner to execute this strategy, leveraging the proven expertise in delivering enterprise software.

 

We engineered an ISO 25010 based quality assurance framework and then built a comprehensive test automation solution to ensure seamless data migration from legacy to a modern microservices architecture.

 

Through this collaboration, we strengthened the client’s quality assurance processes, enhanced product reliability, and optimized operational workflows, enabling broader global reach and sustained business growth.

↳ ISO 25010 Integration: Laying the Foundation for Quality â€‹

Our collaboration with the client initially focused on integrating an ISO/IEC 25010-compliant quality process to establish a robust foundation for their software lifecycle. By aligning development and testing activities with industry recognized quality attributes - such as functionality, reliability, performance efficiency, maintainability, and security - we enabled the client to adopt a structured and measurable approach to software quality.This integration involved assessing their existing QA workflows, defining quality metrics for each system component, and introducing consistent documentation and traceability practices. The ISO 25010 framework helped the client standardize quality criteria across their teams, ensuring that all future development and testing activities, including automation, were guided by quantifiable quality objectives.As a result, when the automation phase began, the organization already had clear quality baselines, defined acceptance criteria, and a mature QA governance model. This allowed our automation framework to seamlessly align with the client’s quality goals, accelerating test coverage, improving defect traceability, and maximizing the return on automation investment.

 

↳ Automation: Streamlining the Delivery 

By analyzing the technology stack and software architecture, we discovered that running integration tests is going to speedup automation suite development and would be more efficient than the client’s conventional method. Led by our automation QA expert, this process smoothly transitioned from the discovery phase into the full-fledged delivery of automated tests across development teams. The testing framework we built relied on our competence in developing sophisticated ecosystems for energy companies.Given the complexity of our client’s software architecture, we focused on delivering optimized and cost-efficient automated test coverage. As our client wanted to migrate to microservice architecture, we helped them establish automation testing to check if their transitioning went smoothly. The new approach effectively streamlined the entire development process without interfering with existing testing frameworks.Previously, it took at least two weeks and a half to check if data was displayed correctly for about 140 customers and 40 remote sites. With the new framework, this could be verified within 15 minutes by running reconciliation and verification suite developed by our team.

 

↳ Integrated reporting and analytical platform development 

After the successful delivery of quality assurance framework, we started another project with our client EU regulatory reporting. The assumed scope of work included integrating a local reporting tool into our client’s holistic ecosystem of analytical products. The existing tool used legacy technology and required upgrading as well as architectural reimage to enable integration into a unified system for reporting on, controlling, and monitoring energy services. With our platform development expertise and our client’s product vision, we implemented the necessary functionality to live up to the client’s expectations in terms of the security, integrity and related regulatory requirements needed. Monitoring was another important feature we built based on data management and analytics to create extensive reports and customizable power consumption dashboards. Coupled with the conversion module, this allowed customers from any part of the world to receive localized data with actionable insights to inform their business decisions.

 

As part of integration project, we've built a solution that consolidated various reporting data streams via a data warehouse and data lake systems. Implemented data lake allowed not only to solve regulatory reporting requirements, but became a basis for better supply/demand planning using certain analytical toolchains and predictive modeling in particular. â€‹

As our client was looking for engineering expertise in quality assurance, we provided just the right skill set and helped them establish a mature quality framework based on ISO 25010 that enabled the client's R&D  teams to adopt a structured and measurable approach to software quality.

 

Our team then built an automation suite on top of the quality framework. New quality framework and automation has allowed for the following key gains:

  • New automatic integration tests spawned around 45 micro-services used by over hundreds of our client’s business customers around the world.

Apart from quality and automation workflows, we also adapted and reimagined their reporting platform to meet EU regulatory requirements.

 

Using our strong Agile expertise, we employed the methodology, providing just the right mix of formal routines and flexibility for smooth product delivery:

  • Traceability throughout the software development lifecycle and complete visibility into the entire process improved the communication flow across time zones.

  • Accurate project planning and software delivery reduced the time to market for our client’s energy services from one year to a couple of months.

  • Integrating local proprietary solutions into a unified platform for energy management, monitoring, and analytics allowed our client to globalize their product offering.
